Anchor D Guiding & Outfitting Ltd.
Join us for two-hours or three hours of horseback riding in the high ridges around the Ranch in Kananaskis Country. Wind your way up to the top of a ridge, and along scenic trails, where you can capture magnificent views of the Rockies on one side, and the foothills and prairies on the other; or cross the Sheep River to explore even more incredible country, before winding your way back to the Ranch.
Or saddle up and explore the Alberta Rockies on a 4 or 7 day adventure! We'll take you by horseback into our High Mountain Wilderness Camp situated at 6500 feet elevation, and completely surrounded by mountains. It is most of a day's horseback ride into this camp, offering canvas outfitter tents with cots and foam mattresses for guests, a bathroom tent and a large kitchen and dining tent. In this area, four different mountain ranges meet - there is no end to the possibilities and adventure!
The "Great Divide Ride" is the most popular trip we have. It's a 7-day moving trip, using two teams of draft horses and covered wagons to transport the food, camp and duffle to the three different camps we stay in during the trip. While the wagons roll through the lower elevations, the horseback riders hit the high mountain trails that take you high above timberline, past tumbling mountain streams and through stands of virgin timber. By the time you get to the next camp, the mess tent is set up and a welcome cup of hot coffee is ready for you.
As in our other packages, we supply all your meals, starting with lunch on the first day, and ending with lunch on the last day. We provide the horses, cooks, wranglers, guide, tents, cots with foam mattresses, all your meals and snacks - everything but your sleeping bag and personal gear.
We also have a cozy, two bedroom log cabin for rent, nestled in the foothills of the Rockies right beside Kananaskis Country. This authentic log cabin comes with full kitchen, television/VCR (movie rental nearby), loft, and a great view. The surrounding area offers great photographic opportunities. Whether you're a horse enthusiast or just want to strap on your hiking boots and head up the ridge into Kananaskis country, this is the perfect place for families or a romantic and relaxing getaway. If you're a cross-country ski enthusiast or enjoy skating, we're only 5 km. from the Sandy McNabb Recreation Area.
